The Yorkville Shop That Started it All

Since 1937, the Schaller & Weber store has been the Upper East Side staple for German and European food and culture.

A New York Institution

The original store has been standing near the intersection of Second Ave and 86th Street since Ferdinand Schaller and Tony Weber founded the company. In that era, butchers were known for focusing on one style. The two founders specialized in pork, and the founders were there every day, producing each product by hand until the city knew Schaller & Weber was, and is, a true charcuterie.

Since then, the people and the neighborhood have changed and changed again, but the Schaller & Weber store remains. When production moved off premises in the 1960s, the size of the store doubled and allowed Schaller & Weber to offer the perfect accoutrements to the meat people were coming for.

Customers can still grab any of the sausages, meats or condiments they need from the Schaller & Weber line. They will also find a store dedicated to bringing them the finest German-style products, from cheeses and coffees, to pickles, sauerkraut and breads. It’s a completely European experience. As a bonus, every kid who walks through the door will be offered a sample of our award-winning bologna, just as they have been since 1937.
