Bacon Grilled Cheese

We bet you'll think twice before you make a grilled cheese without bacon again. “How to MEAT” is back with Claire Robinson. This time she is going to show us all how to make bacon the standout in this deliciously cheesy melt. We'll use the sweet and savory maple bacon we made during a previous episode of "How to MEAT" using our famous dry-cured, double smoked bacon slabs as our star. Then we'll build our sandwich with slices of aged white cheddar and apples.

Bacon Grilled Cheese

We bet you'll think twice before you make a grilled cheese without bacon again. “How to MEAT” is back with Claire Robinson. This time she is going to show us all how to make bacon the standout in this deliciously cheesy melt. We'll use the sweet and savory maple bacon we made during a previous episode of "How to MEAT" using our famous dry-cured, double smoked bacon slabs as our star. Then we'll build our sandwich with slices of aged white cheddar and apples.
 
 
Ingredients

Schaller & Weber Slab Bacon
Schaller & Weber Sweet and Spicy Bavarian Mustard
Aged white cheddar cheese
Bread
Directions

  • Heat a skillet or griddle pan over medium heat.
  • Paint bacon grease on one side of each slice of bread. Place bread, bacon fat coated side down into warm pan, and top with 1 slice of cheese, apple slices to cover cheese, bacon, and finish build with one more slice of cheese. Last, top with another slice of bread, leaving bacon fat coated side up, or exposed.
  • Cook until the underside of bread on pan is golden brown and cheese is beginning to melt; flip sandwiches, press lightly, and continue cooking until golden and toasty. With a sharp or serrated knife, slice sandwiches on the diagonal and serve immediately.
  • EAT & ENJOY!!!
  • Yield: 4 servings

    ADDITIONAL TIPS:

  • Choose your favorite cheese! I like a sharp white cheddar with this, but gruyere, Swiss, or even a blue cheese would also be delicious.
  • Any egg based bread will work here, such as potato or challah
  • Any favorite apple will work here, granny smith, pink Gaia, etc.; or even try a pear!
  • Butter works if you do not have rendered bacon fat on hand.
